Unlike other Japanese green teas, Houjicha is roasted over charcoal to give this tea its unique flavour. The tea leaves are brown in colour and have a toasted scent. This tea is more akin to a Chinese green tea in look and taste because of the roasting process. Houjicha goes with any kind of food, particularly oily foods
